We’re looking for an exceptional Principal Engineer to take end-to-end technical ownership across a large-scale, multi-product organisation.

This is not a single-team or delivery-focused engineering role. It sits at organisation level, shaping how engineering platforms evolve across multiple domains, teams and product areas. The work here is about direction, alignment and leverage, not feature delivery.

You’ll be responsible for setting technical direction across all Platforms functions, working closely with senior engineering and executive stakeholders to define how systems scale, connect and evolve over time.

In practice, your decisions will ripple across the entire engineering organisation.
 
What you’ll do
 
You will:

• Own technical strategy and architecture across the full platform engineering landscape
• Act as the senior technical voice for platform engineering with executive and C-suite stakeholders
• Set direction across multiple teams, ensuring alignment, consistency and scalable outcomes
• Solve complex cross-domain problems spanning scale, reliability, performance, cost and developer experience
• Drive platform effectiveness through better paved paths, automation, tooling and AI-enabled engineering workflows
• Improve developer productivity by reducing friction and enabling self-serve capability at scale
• Influence system design and architecture across interconnected services and platform components
• Coach and elevate Staff and Senior Staff Engineers across a broad engineering organisation
• Shape how platform engineering matures in a highly distributed, fast-moving technical environment

What you bring

This role is built for someone operating beyond team-level or single-domain ownership. You’ll already be working across multiple teams or systems, with impact that extends beyond a localised engineering context.
 
You will have:

• Deep experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems or platform ecosystems
• A strong software engineering foundation with serious depth in architecture and systems thinking
• Proven experience owning technical strategy across multiple teams, not just within one
• A track record of improving platform capability and developer experience at organisational scale
• Experience influencing senior and executive stakeholders and driving alignment across complex environments
• Experience mentoring and growing senior technical leaders across a wider organisation
• A practical understanding of how AI is reshaping engineering productivity and delivery models

You’ll be working across multiple engineering groups where problems don’t respect team boundaries, and progress depends on alignment as much as technical design.
