It’s about taking smart R&D work and turning it into software that actually runs in the real world.

I’m working with a defence aligned technology organisation building advanced systems across AI simulation and autonomous platforms. They’re looking for a Python focused Software Engineer who’s comfortable owning backend services and helping move innovation into production.

What you’ll actually be doing

• Designing and building Python based REST APIs using FastAPI
• Supporting R&D teams by turning proof of concepts into production ready systems
• Working closely with C++ engineers to bridge research and deployed software
• Writing clean testable and well documented code that meets quality standards
• Debugging testing and improving reliability across services
• Contributing to software design decisions not just tickets

What they’re looking for

• Solid defence industry experience with Python
• Strong experience building HTTP based APIs using FastAPI
• A good understanding of software fundamentals including data structures performance and testing
• Comfortable working in agile collaborative environments
• Able to work autonomously make sound decisions and deliver to deadlines
• Clear communicator who can work across engineering and R&D teams

Nice to have not required

• Docker Linux and CI CD pipelines
• WebSockets or distributed systems
• Exposure to cloud environments
• Experience supporting research teams or early stage innovation

The important bit

• You must be eligible to obtain baseline security clearance
• You must be based in Melbourne or Sydney and be available for Hybrid working arrangements
• You must be ITAR compliant
