About
Great platform teams don’t just keep systems running.
They make every engineer around them better.
This team already operates high-scale traffic across Cloudflare, AWS, Kubernetes and service mesh within one of Australia’s most successful product companies, a multi-billion dollar business handling tens of billions of requests every month.
The foundations are strong.
The scale is real.
Now they’re looking to go further.
They’re hiring a Staff Platform Engineer to bring an even stronger software-first lens to how internal traffic and connectivity systems are designed, extended and experienced across the organisation.
This isn’t about replacing what exists.
It’s about applying deeper software engineering leverage to the platform that hundreds of engineers depend on every day.
If you care about distributed systems and developer experience in equal measure and you want Staff-level scope to shape both; this is that intersection.

It’s about applying deeper software engineering leverage to the platform that hundreds of engineers depend on every day.
If you care about distributed systems and developer experience in equal measure and you want Staff-level scope to shape both; this is that intersection.
The Role:
- Extend, refactor, and evolve the Go-based platform codebase, building on the solid foundation the team has already created
- Design scalable abstractions for routing, policy, and service connectivity that make systems easier to reason about and extend
- Move the team’s efforts from locally-scoped automation to reusable, organisation-wide platform capabilities
- Improve developer experience, making it faster and simpler for engineers to interact with Kubernetes, service mesh, and internal systems
- Influence architectural direction and platform standards across multiple teams
- Mentor and support the team in applying software engineering practices at scale
What Success Looks Like:
- Platform systems are cleaner, modular, and easier to extend without compromising reliability
- Connectivity and routing patterns are simplified and predictable, while maintaining the robustness the team has already built
- Developer friction has been reduced through better abstractions and tooling
- Local automation has been replaced with durable, reusable platform primitives
- Architectural decisions are explicit, well-documented, and designed for long-term evolution
- The team’s software engineering maturity has grown, with stronger design thinking and system-level awareness
- You are recognised as a Staff-level technical leader influencing beyond your immediate team
You’re a strong software engineer who enjoys systems thinking and platform work. You might have:
- Built production backend systems in Go or Typescript
- Designed distributed systems and internal tooling that scale across teams
- Owned CI/CD, internal platform frameworks, or developer-facing services
- A mindset for improving developer experience while respecting established platform expertise
Why It’s Exciting:
- 30,000+ internal requests per second through service mesh
- Tens of billions of external requests per month
- A platform environment mature, reliable, and evolving
- Freedom to champion software-first improvements and influence engineering culture
- Staff-level scope, not just senior contribution, but shaping how platform engineering operates at scale
