This is not a traditional infrastructure role. It is about bringing software engineering rigour to platform and infrastructure problems, improving how systems are built, extended, and consumed across the organisation.

The Role As a Staff Platform Engineer, you will act as a senior technical leader responsible for strengthening systems through software-first thinking and engineering discipline.

You will:

• Design and build platform solutions using strong software engineering practices such as clean code, testing, and maintainability
• Apply a software-first approach to infrastructure, automation, and internal tooling
• Improve platform health, reliability, and observability through well-engineered systems
• Lead the development of internal tools and services that other engineers depend on
• Drive improvements to CI/CD, automation, and Infrastructure-as-Code
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical roadmaps
• Act as a key escalation point for production systems and incident resolution
• Influence how platform capabilities are designed and consumed across teams

This is less about configuring systems and more about engineering them properly.

Who This Suits
You are a software engineer at heart who enjoys working on systems, platforms, and internal tooling.

You have:

• A background as a software engineer building production systems
• Experience writing and maintaining backend services in languages like Go, TypeScript, Java, or similar
• Strong fundamentals in testing, code quality, and system design
• Exposure to platform, infrastructure, or DevOps environments
• Experience building internal tooling, frameworks, or services used by other engineers
• Contributed to architectural decisions and technical direction
• Mentored engineers and improved engineering practices within a team

You might currently be in a platform team, or you might be a backend engineer who has moved closer to infrastructure.
Either way, you think in code, not just configuration.
