About

JDP are partnering with a trailblazing studio who are reimagining what interactive entertainment looks like. Think beyond static tables and predictable gameplay, this team are building fully immersive 3D worlds powered by Unreal Engine, blending gaming, broadcast, and cinematic tech into something the industry hasn’t seen before.

From reinventing classics with rich, 3D spins through to bold new genres like racing, action-adventure, and combat, their work is scaling globally and pushing the boundaries of what digital entertainment can be. With backing from household-name partners and access to globally recognised franchises, this is your chance to create characters that audiences won’t just play — they’ll remember.

The Role As a Character Technical Artist, you’ll be the bridge between art and tech, taking character concepts and transforming them into living, breathing digital beings inside Unreal Engine 5. You won’t just follow pipelines, you’ll shape them: engineering characters that emote, move, and captivate across gameplay and cinematic experiences.
This role is about where polygons meet personality. Your rigging decisions, shaders, and toolsets will define how characters come alive in real time.

Why You’ll Love It Here
  • Competitive salary
  • Hybrid model (up to 2 days WFH per week).
  • 20 days annual leave + additional leave for personal, community, or religious reasons.
  • Industry-leading parental leave (up to 22 weeks + caregiver top-ups).
  • Free lunches daily, unlimited snacks & drinks.
  • Mental wellbeing program with free counselling and support resources.
  • Pet-friendly workspace, yes, bring your furry friend to the office.
  • Cutting-edge tools and tech setup, tailored to you.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Own the end-to-end character asset pipeline: modelling, texturing, rigging, and animation workflows.
  • Build and refine toolsets that make character creation scalable, modular, and efficient.
  • Develop sophisticated rigs, deformation systems, and animation controls for expressive, adaptable characters.
  • Integrate cloth, hair, and soft-body physics to maximise realism.
  • Work with real-time mocap (Vicon, Xsens, OptiTrack, Move.AI, Rokoko) to bring performances to life.
  • Collaborate closely with animators and engineers to push fidelity and streamline pipelines.
  • Optimise assets for seamless use in Unreal Engine 5, across cinematic and live-service contexts.
  • Mentor junior artists and document best practice for scalable pipelines.
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years in a Character Tech Art or equivalent role.
  • Deep hands-on experience in Unreal Engine 5 (rigging, modular systems, pipelines).
  • Strong proficiency with Maya, Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter, and Photoshop.
  • Demonstrated experience with mocap workflows and custom toolset development.
  • Solid knowledge of cloth, hair, and physics systems for real-time optimisation.
  • A portfolio showcasing shipped projects, rigs, and technical breakdowns.
Bonus points if you’ve worked across both stylised and realistic assets, built creature/monster rigs, or scripted tools with Python/MEL.
